How can we offer high quality instruments made in China?

We make instruments like how a violinmaker would make it.

Oviolin's instruments are of a high quality standard because we don't adopt the production line to make instruments, like many large factories. We choose the materials, craft the instrument, varnish and setup the instrument just like a traditional violinmaker would.

Well, first it’s important to understand how violins are made in factories

Most factories in China employ untrained people to make violins. They have no choice because there is not enough trained violinmakers around, and they are faced with an ever increasing order book they must satisfy. This is the main reason these factories practice a division of labour common in production line manufacturing. This made it possible to quickly train new personnel and also makes it difficult for anyone to master violinmaking completely.

This system makes a lot of sense from meeting high production point of view, but to serious string players like you, it does not make any sense.

OVH TAKES 2-3X LONGER TIMES TO MAKE A VIOLIN THAN TYPICAL FACTORIES BEFORE SELLING THEM TO YOU.

We are very different in more than one way:

We are violinmakers.

Our violinmakers either learnt from the first generation of Chinese violinmakers, or are violinmakers who make violins for German brands in the 1980s. We take great pride in violinmaking and refuse to make them using a production line even if it means we make less quantity.

You choose what you want, exactly.

Even though we take 35-50 days to make an instrument, we make them in advance so you get it immediately without waiting for them to be made. Our web-based sales approach means you choose the exact instrument from our photo inventory for each model. No surprises.
